NEW EXPERIMENTAL DATA ON $mu$-MESONS (in Russian)

The accumulated experimental data on mu -mesons was examined. The electromagnetic interactions of muons ai e discussed. The cross sections for the pioduction of mu /sup +/ mu /sup -/ pairs from high energy photons were found to agree, within experimental errors, with the predicted values. From the scattering of muons on nuclei the characteristic Iength, that enters into the nduon formfactor, was found to be approximately 0.5 fermis. The gyromagnetic factor for the muon agrees to within 2% of the theoretical value. The weak interactions of mu -mesons were also considered. The experimental mean lifetinie of the muon agreed with the calculated value and thus supported the existence of a universal weak interaction. The polarization of the muon at the time of pi - yields mu decay also agreed with that calculated fiom theory. The helicity of particles emitted in the decay, mu -YY e + v + v(bar over), is also described. (TTT)
