COMPLEXES OF THE RARE EARTHS. PART II. N,N'-ETHYLENEDIAMINE-DIACETIC ACID

Journal Article · · Journal of Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry (England) Merged with Inorg. Nucl. Chem. Lett. to form Polyhedron

Step-wise stoichiometric formation constants were determined for the rare earths (including yttrium) with N,N'ethylenediaminediacetic acid. The measurements were made in aqueous solutions of ionic strength mu = 0.1 (KNO/sub 3/) and a temperature of 25 deg C. The data were interpreted in terms of 1: 1 and 2: 1 chelates. Trends in the values of log Ki and log K/sub 2/ are discussed and compared with similar values for other aminopolycarboxylate complexes. It is further shown that the values of log K/sub 2/ are of such a magnitude as to suggest that the rare-earth ions exhibit a coordination number larger than six. (auth)
