DETECTION OF NUCLEAR DISINTEGRATIONS PRODUCED BY 1.55-Bev PROTONS IN SILVER CHLORIDE SINGLE CRYSTALS

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Letters
A technique that makes tracks of heavy primary cosmic rays visibie in transparent silver chloride single crystais is shown to be applicabie to the study of nuclear disintegrations produoed by particles accelerated in high-energy machines. Tracks of events produced by a 1.55 Bev proton beam are presented and discussed. Events observed include hammer tracks, collision-produced particles with ranges greater than 1800 microns, and events thought to be decays of Be/sup 8/ into two alpha particles. (H.D.R.)
