Title: ENGINEERING EVALUATION STUDIES, HEAVY WATER MODERATED POWER REACTOR PLANTS. Quarterly Progress Report, July-September 1962

Work on the computer program for the economic optimization of D/sub 2/O moderated power reactors, which is being done in conjunction with du Port, is continuing. Terminal report (SL-1949) for fiscal year 1962 presents complete operating and cost data characterizing all the 300 Mwe turbine plants. The design and cost equations for the 300 Mwe liquid D/sub 2/O, boiling D/sub 2/O and organic cooled reactor plants are also discussed. These data are summarized. Turbine cycle efficiency curves as a function of final feedwater temperature were completed for all the 500 and 1000 Mwe turbine plants. Detailed cost breakdowns for the 500 and 1000 Mwe turbine plarts were completed except for one or two cost components. Publication of these data was delayed pending receipt of these data from the equipment manufacturers. The design and cost equations for the 500 and 1000 Mwe liquid D/sub 2/O, boiling D/sub 2/O, and organic cooled reactor plant auxiliaries and structures are being developed The compilation of technical and cost data associated with the components of the H/sub 2/O fog and gas cooled reactor plants is continuing.
