REGGE POLES AND LANDAU SINGULARITIES

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Letters
A scattering amplitude as a function of energy t and momentum transfer s has singularities at threshold values of these variables and on Landau curves. An examination was made of the accumulation of Landau curves near the threshold values of t and how this accumulation is manifested in the behavior of singularities of the amplitudes as functions of angular momentum l. It is shown that at t = t/sub i/, corresponding to any two-particle threshold, the accumulation of an infinite number of poles on the line Re l =-1/2 takes place. Arguments are also presented for the statement that at an energy corresponding to an n-particle production threshold, the accumulation of an infinite number of poles must occur on the line Re 1 =-1/2- 3/2 (n -- 2).
