During 1956-61 eight latitude surveys of cosmic-ray intensity were carried out along the same ship route between Japan and the Antarctic. A fixed position of the cosmic ray equator at 107 deg E found throughout the surveys, 8.1 plus or minus 0.2 deg N geographic latitude, suggests few distortion effects of the geomagnetic field on cosmic rays due to the interaction of the dipole field with interplanetary medium. A fixed position of the latitude knee at 30 deg E found throughout the surveys, 35.4 plus or minus 0.4 deg S geomagnetic latitude, means that the knee around 30 deg E is subjected to the intense geomagnetic anomaly around Cape Town rather than some mechanism outside the earth's magnetic field.
