SOME ESTIMATIONS OF THE ELECTROMAGNETIC PARAMETERS FOR THE HYPERSONIC PLASMA SHEATH WITH A MAGNETIC FIELD

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4740111
Constant index of refraction and extinction coefficient contours associated with the longitudinal propagation of left circularly polarized waves and the transverse propagation of extraordinary elliptically polarized waves in a lossy equilibrium plasma with a d-c magnetic field were plotted on rectangnlar coordinates representing vehicle height and velocity (h,v plane) for the stagnation point plasma of a hypersonic vehicle traveling in the atmosphere at seven typical telemetering frequencies wtth four magnetic field strengths. Some of the features of the curves and propagation characteristics in a magneto-plasma are discussed. The curves presented are similar to those for longitudinal propagation of right circularly polarized waves previously published. Also, curves of the (h,v) points of cutoff are shown. (auth)
