Parameters and activation energy were determined for W diffusion into TiC, WC, and TaC and in solid solutions of (mole,%) 93% TiC +7% WC, 77% TiC + 23% WC, 59% TiC + 34% WC + 7% TaC, and 48% TiC + 37% WC + 15% TaC. At 1900 to 2300 nif- C TiC (115 ction in DDT-C/ 8 kcal/mole) has the lowest activation energy and 50% TiC + 34% WC + 7% TaC (225 ction in DDT-C/ 27 mole/ kcal) the highest; the activation energy of TaC (142 kcal/mole) is close to WC (138 kcal/mole). Additions of TaC to the TiCWC solid solutions increase the activation energy. (R.V.J.)
