RADIOELEMENT STUDIES IN THE OCEANS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4738641
Radiation data from samples collected in the Bering Sea--Chukchi Sea area during the period 1959 to 1962 are discussed and compared with data from Arctic Ocean samples. Radionuclides of greatest interest in these samples are Sr/ sup 90/, Ce/sup 144/, and Pm/sup 147/. Atlantic Weather Station observations are discussed, and conclusions based on these observations concerning mixing and fallout are presented. In studies of vertical fallout distribution in the Atlantic Ocean, data from large-volume water samples collected during the period 1959 to 1961 are tabulated and analyzed. It is noted that further work is required before the data can be interpreted. In work on Li in the marine biosphere, data on Li--Rb ratios in plankton were collected and are discussed. (J.R.D.)
