TWO-PHASE PRESSURE LOSSES. SECOND QUARTERLY PROGRESS REPORT, MAY 12- AUGUST 12, 1962

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4737658
The pressure drop along a 1/2" x 13/4" channel in the horizontal orientation was measured under single and twophase flow conditions at 600 and 1000 psia. The flow was varied from 0.25 x 10/sup 6/ to 2.0 x 10/sup 6/ lb/hr ft/ sup 2/, and the quality from zero to 95%. The single-phase friction factor lies about 20% below the Moody smooth pipe curve. The twophase friction, both 600 and 1000 psi, agrees with the Martinelli correlation at 40 per cent quality. At qualities below 40%, the points lie generally below the Martinelli curve, while at qualities above 40%, the points lie above. In the quality range where there are data at more than one flow, there is no discernible flow effect. (auth)
