ANALYTICAL METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF BETA ACTIVITY IN BORE-HOLE WATER

A portion of the sample is concentrated to a low bulk and transferred to a counting tray. It is then evaporated to dryness, and the beta activity is measured in a counter employing an anticoincidence system to reduce background activity. The method is suitable for the determination of trace beta activity in liquid samples of large volume and small total solids content. The lower limit of detection is 0.1 x 10/sup -8/ mu c/ml. The standard deviation is plus or minus 8% at the 0.5 x 10/sup -8/ mu c/ml level of activity. (auth)
