Title: ANOMALOUS SOLVENT EFFECTS IN THE EXTRACTION OF Co(II) FROM AQUEOUS CHLORIDE SOLUTIONS BY LONG CHAIN ALKYL AMINES

Journal Article · · Journal of Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry (England) Merged with Inorg. Nucl. Chem. Lett. to form Polyhedron

A study was made on the extraction efficiency obtained with trialkyl amine systems dissolved in bromochloroalkane solvents for cobalt(II). The results show that the percent extraction of cobalt( II) increases with the age of the amine solution in bromochloroalkane. Experiments with the quaternary salts of the amines were conducted which indicate that the increase with age is due to the displacement of the bromine in the solvent and the formation of a quaternary salt of the amines.
