The formation of chemical products in tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP), di-n- butyl phosphate (DBP), and mono-nbutyl phosphate (MBP) as a result of P/sup 32/(n gamma)P/sup 32/ reaction was investigated. The percentage yields of P/sup 32/ activity in TBP, DHP, MBP, and inorganic forms were determined. The influence of added scavengers and effects of phase change, dilution with n-butanol, and gamma dose were studied. It was found that in the presence of scavengers the products containing more organic rests than the target molecule, are not formed. On the basis of the experimental results the hypothesis is advanced that the formation of the products by the hot processes is mainly due to reaction of the recoil atom with the single medium molecule or with its fragmentation products.
