Titheridge coefficients for the polynomial method of deducing electron density profiles from ionograms

Journal Article · · Journal of Research of the National Bureau of Standards, Section D: Radio Propagation
Sets of polynomial coefficients suitable for the conversion into electron density profiles of smooth virtual-height frequency curves, such as those observed regularly at night, are presented for a series of values of the magnetic dip angle and gyrofrequency. These magnetic conditions are chosen so that the coefficients are suitable for the analysis, to a reasonable degree of accuracy, of ordinary and extraordinary ray records obtnined anywhere in the world. The coefficients may be used for the analysis of topside-sounder data to a first order of accuracy if the plasma frequency at the satellite is small. (auth)
