TOTAL CROSS SECTIONS OF NEGATIVE PIONS IN THE MOMENTUM RANGE 2 TO 5 Bev/c

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Letters
Results are presented of pi /sup -/-p total cross section measurements in the momentum range 2 to 5 Bev/c using counter techniques. A comparison with the results of other experiments shows the data, as a whole, to be inconsistent. Cross sections of pi /sup -/-carbon scattering were measured at 3 and 4 Bev/c to investigate a discrepancy between the pi /sup +/-c cross sections previously measured by the authors and by Wikner. Estimations of total cross sections were extrapolated from the measured cross sections, and good agreement was found between the pi /sup +/ and pi /sup -/ results. (H.D.R.)
