A solid moderator element assembly is designed for high-temperature gas- cooled reactors under high pressure and subjected to accelerations and inclinations. The assembly comprises a plurality of parallel moderator columns formed by stacked elements and having axial channels for the cooling of fuel elements. Clearances between the columns are provided for lateral expansion, and the columns are supported by resilient guide means which allow axial expansion. The resilient guide means comprise helical springs compressed between the columns and members on the side of the pressure vessel. (D.L.C.)
