A period meter is described for a nuclear reactor of the kind comprising a logarithmic amplifier and a differentiating circuit associated with an auxiliary integrating circuit, both circuits utilizing the same amplifier with a high negative gain. The period meter has circuits for performing a suppiementary integration so that low input signals of the circuit have a transient state sufficiently long in order to damp fluctuations of the signal, while for higher signals there is a relatively low damping which is a function of the speed of variation of the signal. Preferably the differentiating circuit has two inputs, each consisting of a condenser; the connection of the output of the logarithmic amplifier with the condensers is performed by the supplementary circuit comprising two branches respectively connecting the output of the logarithmic amplifier with one of the condensers, one branch transmitting only signals lower than a given value, while the other one transmits signals higher than said given value.
