As an introduction to a literature survey of the present state of development of fast breeder reactors, the significance of breeder reactors is discussed. The government programs of the U. S., U.S.S.R., England, and France for this reactor type are compared and contrasted. A comparative compilation of data and charactcristics of the fast breeders in operation and under construction at the present time is presented. (J.S.R.)
