RADIOCHEMICAL INTERPRETATION OF RADIOACTIVE FALL-OUT IN VEGETABLES (in Japanese)

The isotopes contained in vegetables are the same as in air because their radioactive contamination is due to dust or rain from the atmosphere. The concentration ratios, however, are changed because of selective absorption of the piants. Spinach and Chinese cabbage samples were digested with 6N HCl carrying out a chemical separation process with the solution and determiring the various nuclides from their pulse-height spectrum obtained by means of a scintillation spectrometer. Results showed that K/sup 40/ had the highest activity, followed by Zr/sup 95/, Nb/sub 95/, Cs/sup 137/, Ba/su p 140/, Ce/sup 141/, and Ce/sup 144/ . (TTT)
