ON THE PROBLEM OF REDUCTION OF THE DOSE IN ROENTGEN-DIAGNOSIS (in Italian)

Journal Article · · Radiologia Medica (Italy)
OSTI ID:4727985
The modification of the ratio between the incident dose and the emergent dose by using additional filtration and also by increasing the distance between the source of the radiations, the subject, and the film in diagnostic radiography is discussed. Measurements were made with ionization chambers and comparative radiographic tests were performed in order to determine the correlation between the ionometric data and the values of radiographic blackening. It was demonstrated that a considerable reduction of the incident dose, at equal emergent doses may be obtained, especially in the case of beams of radiation generated under fairly low voltages (from 50 to 60 kv), by using supplementary filtration with 3 to 5 mm of aluminum or else by increasing the source-film distance, without having to subject the radiogenic tube to excessive loads.
