LIFETIME OF THE 7.02 Mev LEVEL IN Ne$sup 2$$sup 0$

Journal Article · · Phys. Letters
The 7.02-Mev level in Ne/sup 20/ was prepared by the reaction t 15.55- Mev C/sup 12/ ion beam bombarding energy. The Doppler shift attenuation method was employed to measure the lifetime of the 7.02 Mev level. It was found that the enhancement of the E2 radiation gives support to the view that this level is the 4- rotational level based on the 2- level at 4.97 Mev, the intrinsic quadrupoie moment of this band being the same as that of the ground state band. Preliminary data on the lifetimes of the first three excited levels of Ne indicate agreement with values previously reported. (H.D.R.)
