A boron-pyrocatechol violet complex formed by the reaction between the boric acid excess and pyrocatechol violet was used for the photometric determination of Y in the presence of La and Ce. The method is based on the difference in the stability of the boron-pyrocatechol violet complex and of the complexes of La and Ce. The composition and the instability constant of the Y complex were established. (auth)
