HEAT TRANSFER IN LAMINAR FOG FLOW. Technical Report No. 13
A mathematical model for heat transfer in laminar fog flow was developed; and an analog computer was used to solve the equation for steady, laminar, fully developed fog flow heat transfer in the entrance region of tubes. The results indicate that for a given fluid and geometry increasing the drop size for constant quality decreases the heat transfer rate, and decreasing the quality for constant drop size extends the length over which the heat transfer rate is increased by the two phase nature of the flow. An apparatus was constructed for testing this result. Although experimental heat transfer coefficients for single phase runs differed from accepted values by 12%, fog flow data confirmed the analog computer results and showed that the fog flow model does correctly represent the basic fog flow heat transfer characteristics.
