Three types of the heavy-water-moderated power reactor that are part of the Canadian development program for nuclear power are discussed. Competitive sources of power and the place for nuclear power in Canadian utility systems are suggested. The interest of other countries in heavywater power reactors is described. The advantages and disadvantages of heavy water as a moderator are listed. Heavy-water cooling, organic cooling, and fog cooling of heavy-water- moderated reactors are discussed. (M.C.G.)
