TWO-SPEED DEVICE FOR THE DISPLACEMENT OF FOLLOWER MEANS IN NUCLEAR REACTORS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4725013
A two-speed device comprises a movable two-part stop engageable with a follower urged against this stop by pneumatic means and connected with a control element of a nuclear reactor. The two-part stop consists of an inner screw sliding axially in a hole in a fixed member and is secured in it against rotation by a key and a key-way and of an outer screw being in threaded engagement with the inner screw and with a thread hole in the fixed member. The external threads of the inner screw and the outer screw are of opposite directions. A driving gear, driven by a reversible motor, meshes with a long gear wheel formed as an integral extension of the outer screw. A follower cup has a base and a flange which are engageable with the inner screw and the outer screw, respectively. When the outer screw is rotated, this screw moves up or down, depending upon the direction of rotation. As the interior thread on the outer screw has opposed directions with respect to the exterior thread thereon, the inner screw moves up or down with the outer screw but nt a greater speed than the outer screw. The follower cup engages either the inner or the outer screw. (IIB)
