THE INFLUENCE OF MICROWAVES ON IONIZING RADIATION EXPOSURE

Journal Article · · Aerospace Med.
OSTI ID:4724409
Results are reported from studies in dogs on the effect of microwave exposure on response to ionizing radiation. Irradiation with 25,000 r resulted in death within 24 hr in 2 of 10 dogs with a previous history of microwave exposure. Nine of 10 normal, irradiated dogs died in the same period. Neurological manifestations were less severe in the microwave-treated dogs. The results suggest that the possibility of using microwave treatment to counteract or minimize the effects of ionizing radiation should be explored. (C.H.)
