MEASUREMENT OF THE DEPOLARIZATION PARAMETER FOR 50-Mev PROTON-PROTON SCATTERING AT 70 c.m.

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Letters
The depolarization parameter for 50-Mev proton-proton scattering was measured to determine the /sup 3/P/sub 3/ phase shift to considerably high accuracy. The depolarization parameter is highly sensitive to this /sup 3/P/sub 0/ phase shift. Using the well-defined geometry of the scattering system and information on cross sections and polarization in protonhelium scattering at energies below 30 Mev, a Monte Carlo calculation of /sup 3/P/sub 0/ yielded the value of --0.476 surface proces 0.020 and a depolarization parameter of --0.249 surface proces 0.075.
