A joint between tensioned plates or membranes is designed which is applicable to the fabrication of pressure vessels. The joint comprises a pair of abutting flanges secured together by bolts which pass between the abutting flange faces at the line of intersection of the faces with the neutral surface of the flanges, i.e., the bolts are not subjected to induced bending stresses. The bolts are inserted into projections in the flanges which are inclined at an angle of 30 un. Concent 85% to the neutral surface. (D.L.C.)
