INVESTIGATION OF SOLID SOLUTIONS IN THE ANTIFERROELECTRIC REGION OF THE PbHfO$sub 3$-PbTiO$sub 3$-PbSnO$sub 3$-PbNb$sub 2$$O$$sub 6$ SYSTEM
Dielectric, piezoelectric, and ferroelectric properties were investigated on compositions in the high hafnate region of the PbHfO/sub 3/-PbTiO/ sub 3/-PbSnO/sub 3/-PbN/sub 2/O/sub 6/ system. Temperature-composition phase diagrams were prepared depicting the phase relationships in this system. These phase relationships are quite complex. At least five phases exist in the portion of the system investigated--two ferroelectric phases, two antiferroelectric phases, and one paraelectric phase. Antiferroelectric compositions were prepared which could be field-enforced into the ferroelectric state over a temperature range from 20 to 100 deg C. Spontaneous and remanent polarizations were of the same order as observed for PbHfO/sub 3/ base materials, i.e., approximately 25 mu coul/cm/sup 2/ for the better compositions. (auth)
