ON THE NATURE OF STRAIN HARDENING IN POLYCRYSTALLINE ALUMINUM AND ALUMINUM- MAGNESIUM ALLOYS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4721132
The factors involved in the low-temperature strain hardening of polycrystalline aggregates of Al and Mg--Al solid solutions were deduced from special test data. It was found that the dislocation densities, local interaction stresses, and long-range back stresses increased much more rapidly with strain in the polycrystals than in single crystals. The effects were further enhanced as a result of solid-solution alloying of Al with Mg. (auth)
