RADIATION EFFECTS IN BORIDES. PART II. FISSION SINTERING OF BORIDE POWDERS
Technical Report
·
OSTI ID:4720808
Post-irradiation examination of the borides used showed that the samples that were irradiated as powders sintered into firmly bonded bodies. Radiation sintering occurred at temperatures hundreds of degrees below that required to produce similar interparticle bonding by the application of heat alone. The results of the post-irradiation examination of EuB/sub 6/, B/sub 4/C, YB/sub 4/, HfB/sub 2/, ZrB/sub 2/, TiB/sub 2/, VB/sub 2/, CaB/sub 6/, and SmB/sub 6/ are discussed and compared with radiation sintering in other materials.
