LIFETIME AND BEAM SIZE IN A STORAGE RING

Journal Article · · Phys. rev. Letters

A lifetime of the order of 50 hours, corresponding to the residual air pressure of approximates 5 x 10/sup -10/ Torr, was reported for a small number of stored electrons. The lifetime depends on the number of electrons in the beam. The lifetime of a given beam is independent of the presence of another beam; so that the effect described must be interpreted as a selfinteraction of the particles in each bunch. (C.E.S.)
