NONLINEAR ELECTRODYNAMICS OF SUPER-CONDUCTORS WITH A VERY SMALL COHERENCE DISTANCE

Journal Article · · RCA (Radio Corporation of America) Review (U.S.)
OSTI ID:4719786
A study is made of the electrical properties of a homogeneous superconductor having a Pippard coherence distance much smaller than the London penetration depth, a situation that occurs if the normal-electron mean free path is made sufficiently small as a result of either disorder or boundary scattering. The appropriate nonlinear generalization of the London theory of superconductivity is obtained and compared with the phenomenological Ginzburg- Landau theory. An investigation is made of critical currents and magnetic fields. It is shown that an intermediate state will exist in external magnetic fields much higher than the thermodynamic critical magnetic field. (auth)
