REACTOR CORE COOLANT FLOW DISTRIBUTION

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4719387
Studies were made to determine coolant flow distribution to the core components, excluding fuel assemblies. The calculated coolant flow that by- passes the fuel elements is 39,275 lb/hr. The sources are: moderator coolant annuli, control rods, small experimental tubes, fuel-channel gas seal leakage, excess flow for fuel unloading, and excess flow for servicing operations. It was concluded that no coolant flow is required for flux scanner tubes or graphite plugs in large experimental loop channels. It was calculated that coolant leakage is negligible past ring seals in large experimental loop channels and gaps between graphite column and support plate at small experimental loop locations.
