STATISTICAL PROCESSES IN SCINTILLATION COUNTERS (in Russian)

The statistical ratio of the photoeffect and secondary electron emission is evaluated. Studies of pulse amplitude distribution from single electrons emitted by a photocathode indicate that the second emission statistics for some diodes are in good agreement with Poisson's law. The intrinsic efficiencies (the mean number of photoelectrons reaching the first diode per unit of scattered energy in a scintillator) of counters with NaI(Tl) crystal and liquid scintillators were determined on the basis of statistical data and by direct comparison of mean pulse amplitudes for single electrons and ionizing particles of a given energy. For the FEU-IB the magnitudes are 3900 and 555 e/Mev. (tr- auth)
