MONOPOLE (pn) EXCITATIONS AND ISOBARIC-SPIN SPLITTING OF SINGLE-PARTICLE AND SINGLE-HOLE STATES

Journal Article · · Phys. Letters
A difficulty in making direct measurements of the isobaric-spin splitting of single-particle and hole states in pickup and stripping studies is that the T/sub >/(T/sub target/ + 1/2/) component is unfavored with respect to the T/sub / component. In this case the state that is the isobaric analogue of the target state is strongly monopole excited. Estimates of T-splittings of single-hole states from pickup reactions are tabulated for Cr/sup 51/, Fe/sup 53/, Zn/sup 65/, Zn/sup 67/, and Zr/sup 89/. Estimates of T-s plittings are made for Sc/sup 49/, and a discussion is presented of conclusions that couid be drawn if there were detectable monopole (p,n) transitions to states other than the isobaricspin analogue of the target ground state.
