Estimation of permeability variogram from stochastic analysis of pressure transients of multiple wells in heterogeneous reservoirs
This paper presents a novel approach for the estimation of large scale correlation function of reservoir heterogeneity from the analysis of the pressure transient response. A non-local diffusivity equation, which incorporates directly the correlation function of the permeability is obtained. From its analysis, the permeability semi-variogram of the reservoir can be constructed. The approach is based on the theory of small fluctuations of the logarithm of the permeability and models the response of the {open_quotes}ensemble{close_quotes} average pressure, namely of the pressure obtained by averaging the pressure response of multiple wells. Ensemble average responses of multiple wells are considered for a comprehensive scrutiny of heterogeneity distribution. Numerical simulations results are presented to demonstrate the applicability of the method.
