MEASUREMENTS ON AN ORTHOGONAL PINCH DISCHARGE

Journal Article · · Nucl. Fusion, Suppl.
OSTI ID:4717783
Measurements on an orthogonal pinch discharge are reported, the discharge being produced by a condenser bank of 11.25 mu F at 20 kv with a period of oscillation of 35 mu s. Above a certain pressure ( approximates 250 mu Hg in A) a converging shock is produced at each half cycle of the exciting current. Below this pressure the discharge has a complicated behavior; a luminous sheet is observed, which may be interpreted as an ionization wave, and a high-frequency oscillation of the magnetic field takes place.
