PRACTICAL CRITERIA OF PROTECTION IN RADIUM THERAPY (in Italian)

Journal Article · · Radiologia Medica (Italy)
OSTI ID:4717020
On the basis of the results of measurements taken in the Radium Section of the Radiotherapy Division of Padua Civil Hospital, the author summarizes general and practical suggestions for the protection of personnel in wards where radioactive sources are used for the treatment of hospitalized patients. In particular he considers it advisable that radium sources be kept in containers with separate drawers for each source; that the table used for handling the sources and the sterilizers be situated immediately next to the safes; that the room for application to patients be close to the storage premises; and that the wards and rooms of patients bearing radioactive sources be close to the operating theater. He suggests that the personnel, who are the most exposed to the radiations for the necessity of service, be chosen from individuals over 45 years of age and be suitably rotated. (auth)
