SUBCRITICAL REACTIVITY MEASUREMENT BY A SOURCE-JERK METHOD

Journal Article · · J. Nucl. Energy, Pts. A & B
The theory of the source-jerk technique for the measurement of subcritical reactivity was refined to take account of harmonics present in the neutron flux distribution. The method was applied to tlie measurement of the subcritical activity in a large graphite-moderated uraniumfueled reactor. The subcritical reactivity was found to be STA-2.83 plus or minus 0.21! per cent DELTA K/K. This value is about 10 per cent higher than estimates based on the subcritical approach to critical and on the measured interaction of shutoff rods. (auth)
