ANNUAL REVIEW OF RESEARCH APRIL 1961-MARCH 1963

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4715405
The status of the QP high-temperature-plasma device is reported. Design of the device is discussed, and preliminary tests performed on its components are described. Experimentai work involved research on plasma production by the cesium plasma tube, the quiescent discharge tube, the hollow-magnetic-field discharge tube, the low density plasma tube, and the electron beam plasma tube. Results of some studies on these plasmas are given. Development of probes, spectroscopes, resonance probes, and microwave interferometers for plasma diagnostics is also discussed. Research on oscillations in plasma, on plasma beams in magnetic fields, and on beam-plasma interactions in a magnetic field was also performed. Theoretical work on the structure of a fresh plasma surface and on radiation processes by plasma waves in a homogeneous plasma with no magnetic field is summarized. (D.C.W.)
