Über das Vorkommen mit dem Futter aufgenommenen Strontiums im Hühnerei: 2. Mitteilung: Ablagerung in der Schale
White Leghorn hens at the age of 1 yr were placed on a diet containing 2 meq SrCO/sub 3/ per 100 g dry wt. The diet, which was fed ad libitum for 180 days, had a Ca: Sr ratio of 22. At the end of this time, SrCO/sub 3/ was replaced with an equivalent amount of CaCO/sub 3/ and feeding was continued for 218 days. Sr and Ca contents were determined in the ashed shell of 200 eggs laid during this period. Sr appeared in the shell of eggs laid the same day Sr feeding was begun. The ash of the shells contained 0.6% Sr and 72% Ca. Sr content then continuously increased to reach a maximum value of 2.6% of the ashed shell by the 57th day of Sr feeding, at which time the Ca content was st run. Concent 68%. The decline in Ca content is significant and represents a replacement of Ca by Sr in shell mineral. At the maximum Sr level in the shell (the saturating concentration) the Ca: Sr ratio reached 26, compared with the dietary ratio of 22. After removal of SrCO/sub 3/ from the diet the shell Sr level fell rapidly; 143 days later it reached 0.1% of the ash and was no longer detectable after 175 days. (H.H.D.)
