PERMANGANATOMETRIC METHOD FOR DETERMINING COLUMBIUM, WITH THE USE OF 8- HYDROXYQUINOLINE AS PRECIPITATING AGENT
Conditions for the precipitation of Nb in the form of hydroxyquinolate from solutions of the tartaric acid complex were established. The solutions were prepared from carbonate or pyrosulfate melts, as well as from a sulfuric acid niobium pentoxide solution. The reproducibility and duration of oxidation of hydroxyquinoline (I) with permanganate in sulfuric acid medium were examined, and the equivalent of (I) in the reaction was determined. Optimum conditions for the dissolution of niobium hydroxyquinolate in H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/ and for the titration of the solution with 0.02 N KMnO/sub 4/ solution were established. The permanganatometric method was found to be most convenient and most accurate for the determination of small amounts of Nb (5 to 50 mg) in a small volume of solution (25 to 30 ml).
