COMPARATIVE FILM THICKNESS AND HOLDUP MEASUREMENTS IN VERTICAL ANNULAR FLOW

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4714651
Measurements were made of liquid film thickness in the upward annular flow of air-water mixtures in a 1.25-in. bore tube, using three different methods: measurement of the conductance between flush mounted conductance probes (AERE method); measurement of the conductance of the whole liquid film over a length of the tube (method of CISE, Milan); and trapping and measuring the amount of liquid held in the tube between two quick-closing valves (holdup method). In general, the holdup method gives results which are equal to or, at high thicknesses, somewhat greater than the AERE technique, whereas the CISE method gives results almost invariably lower. However, the three methods all give results of the same order and the differences are not sufficient to explain the discrepancy between the AERE resuits and the CISE film thickness correlation (auth)
