RADIATION EFFECTS ON LEAD ZIRCONATE TITANATE FERROELECTRICS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4714141

Radiatton effects studies were completed which indicate that the radiation-induced defects that cause an increase in the lattice parameter and a distortion of the hysteresis loop are different since they anneal at different temperatures. Isochronal annealing experiments reveal that defects which have completely eliminated the remanent polarization are annealed by temperature cycling 65/35 and 68/7 PZT ceramics to 750 and 325 deg C, respectively. The lattice parameter, which was increased due to radiationinduced reactions, does not anneal after high-temperature cycling. The increased fragility which occurs due to radiation-induced strain in the crystals does not appear to temperature anneal. (auth)
