Title: METASTABLE STATES IN THE LIGHT THALLIUM ISOTOPES PRODUCED IN HEAVY-ION REACTIONS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4713668

The relatively short-lived isomeric states produced in the odd-mass thallium isotopes were studied by irradiating suitable targets with heavy ions ranging from He/sup 4/ to Ne/sup 20/ to produce excited thallium nuclei of mass 191 to 200. Transitions were observed with electron and gamma spectrometers. Energies, half lives, intensities, and mass assignments were determined for the electron lines. Multipole assignments were made from the experimental K/L electron ratios. The half lives of states and the half lives, intensities and types (E2, etc.) of transitions were determined. Assignments were also made for the spin of ground and lower excited states, and the proposed level schemes for isomeric Tl/sup 199/, Tl/sup 197/, Tl/sup 195/, and Tl/sup 193/ are given. T he isomeric levels in Tl/sup 199/ and Tl/sup 193/ were assigned a spin of 9/2 as were corresponding levels in Tl/sup 197/ and Tl/sup 195/ that were previously assigned as h/sub 1/2/ single particle states.
