NON LINEAR EFFECTS ON THE DAMPING CONSTANTS OF ELECTRON OSCILLATIONS IN A SYNCHROTRON. Note No. 166

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4711515
Following up Hereward's demonstration that the nonlinearity of the expression for radiated energy can be important in strong-focusing accelerators, perhaps to avoid antidamping on the radial betatron oscillation mode, the synchrotron damping constant is re-evaluated considering the nonlinear terms to be in the expression for radiated energy. A formula that agrees well with Hereward's is derived. (D.C.W.)
