Heat transfer to an infinite solid through a moving boundary

Journal Article · · International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer

The objective of this paper is to investigate the classical Stefan problem of a one dimensional heat transfer problem with a moving boundary. To solve this problem the authors use a known perturbation scheme to obtain an approximate solution when the ratio of sensible heat to the latent heat is small. They compare a numerical solution of this problem with the asymptotic and investigate the variation of the asymptotic regression rate and key parameters. This method is valid for small values of the Stefan parameter and the motivation of this model is that it can be applied to a similar problem involving char formation.
