DOSIMETRIC MEASUREMENTS WITH TISSUE-EQUIVALENT IONIZATION CHAMBERS (in Italian)

Journal Article · · Energia Nucl. (Milan)
OSTI ID:4710751

The characteristics of a tissue-equivalent ionization chamber are given; its walls are about 0.4 cm thick and the sensitive volume is about 300 cm/sup 3/. The sensitivity to gamma rays and neutrons vs. the pressure of the filling gas was measured. A greater sensitivity was obtained, when the chamber was filled with a tissue-equivalent gas rather than with air. Finally its characteristics were compared with those of a bakelite chamber and those of a graphite chamber; its greater sensitivity to neutrons makes it suitable for dose measurement in mixed field. especially if it is used together with the graphite chamber.
