Isotopic abundance of meteoritic lithium

Journal Article · · Journal of Geophysical Research
The abundances of Li/sup 7/ and Li/sup 6/ in stone meteorites were determined by mass-spectrometric techniques. The peak ratio of Li⁷/Li⁶ was observed as 10.5 in lithium samples isolated from three chondrites, Bruderheim, Harleton, and Ehole. Terrestrial rock samples showed a value of 12.0 under the same experimental conditions. Some possible mechanisms that might have resulted in the difference in ratio between the meteoritic and the terrestrial lithium are discussed. (auth)
